TEHRAN – The multi-talented Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami is organizing a film installation entitled “Looking at Tazieh” during the Asian Arts Theatre (AAT) in the South Korean city of Gwangju to familiarize the audience with tazieh, an Iranian passion play.
The spectators can watch the film installation on September 18 and 20, organizers have announced on the AAT website.
Tazieh recounts religious events, historical and mythical stories, and folk tales. Each performance has the four components of poetry, music, song and motion. Performers are always male, and female roles are played by men.
Tazieh was registered on UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2010.
In addition, a lecture performance entitled “Damascus” by Azadeh Shahmiri will go on stage on September 13 and 14.
The lecture performance narrates the personal experience of Shahmiri from the historical background of the city of Damascus in Syria through pictures.
The festival, which opened on September 4, will host thirty-three international presentations, including premieres of twelve Asian productions and co-productions, until September 21.
